Sukhjeet Pal Singh, IAS, assumed charge as Registrar of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, on Wednesday and also took over the current duties of the office of Vice-Chancellor.

Singh, a 2018-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Punjab cadre, holds an M.A. in Economics. During his administrative career, he has served in key state government assignments, including as Additional Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, and Additional Secretary, Housing and Urban Development.

Interacting with PAU officers after assuming charge, Singh described his association with the university as an honour and highlighted its longstanding contribution to agricultural research and service to the farming community.

He appreciated the work of PAU’s domain experts and called for continued efforts to address emerging challenges in agriculture. He emphasised a student-centric approach to strengthening the university’s teaching, research and extension ecosystem.

Singh said good governance, inclusivity and innovation would remain important elements of his approach as he takes forward his responsibilities at the university.

Highlighting the importance of teamwork in institution-building and nation-building, he said collective effort was essential to achieving larger goals. He quoted Helen Keller’s words: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

During the interaction, PAU’s Deans and Directors briefed the new Registrar on the university’s achievements in teaching, research and extension. They also outlined initiatives and programmes planned for the coming period.

Dr Vishal Bector, Associate Director (Institution Relations), coordinated the interaction between the new administration and the university’s academic leadership.

Established in 1962, PAU has played a significant role in Punjab’s agricultural development and has been associated with the state’s Green Revolution. Over the decades, the university has contributed to agricultural research, education and extension while producing generations of scientists and other professionals serving the farming sector.
