Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to constitute a Joint Committee to address the grievances of National Health Mission (NHM) employees and work towards an amicable resolution of their demands.
Cheema, who chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to resolve employees’ issues, issued the directions during a meeting held in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh.
The proposed committee will comprise officers from the Health, Finance and Social Welfare Departments, a special invitee from the Education Department and two representatives of the NHM Employees Union. Cheema directed the Health Department to prepare a comprehensive agenda after consulting other NHM unions so that the committee can examine their concerns in a structured manner.
“The joint committee must take the bull by the horns by discussing the financial liabilities and legal obligations linked to the unions’ demands,” Cheema said. He directed the department to place the final proposal before the Cabinet Sub-Committee for further deliberation and implementation.
The Finance Minister also held discussions with representatives of several teachers’ unions, including the 4161 Master Cadre Adhiyapak Union, 3704 Adhiyapak Union, Computer Teachers Union and the 180 ETT TET Pass Adhiyapak Association (Jai Singh Wala).
The concerns raised by the teachers’ representatives largely related to transfers and salaries. Cheema instructed the Education Department to address their legitimate demands within a fixed timeline, with the objective of providing relief to the teachers.
“The Bhagwant Singh Mann Government remains committed to going the extra mile to resolve employees’ genuine concerns, thereby strengthening trust between the state government and its workforce,” Cheema said.
The meetings were attended by NHM Employees Union representatives Dr Wahid Mohammed, Dr Amandeep Kaur, Dr Jatinder Sandhu and Ranjeet Kaur. Representatives of the 4161 Master Cadre Adhiyapak Union included Sandeep Singh, Balkar Singh and Kuldeep Singh, while Jagjeevanjot Singh, Rajeshwar Rai, Rakesh Kumar and Sumeetpal Singh represented the 3704 Adhiyapak Union.
Gurwinder Singh, Suneet Sarin, Gagandeep Singh and Seetal Singh attended on behalf of the Computer Teachers Union, while Kamal Thakur, Sohan Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Gaurav Kant and Parshotam represented the 180 ETT TET Pass Adhiyapak Association (Jai Singh Wala).
