Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Tuesday reviewed the state’s preparedness for the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)-2026 campaign, which will be observed across Punjab from September 17 to October 2 under the theme “Participate in Swachhta, Swachh Bharat, Developed Bharat”.
Mundian participated through video conferencing in a meeting chaired by the Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. The meeting focused on preparations, planning and proposed activities for the effective implementation of SHS-2026, with particular emphasis on rural areas.
Reviewing Punjab’s arrangements, Mundian apprised the Union Government of the measures being taken to ensure effective implementation of the campaign at the grassroots level. He said the state was working to secure active participation of Gram Panchayats, local communities and other stakeholders in cleanliness and sanitation activities across rural Punjab.
The Minister said the campaign would give further momentum to ongoing efforts to make villages cleaner, healthier and more sustainable. He stressed that sustained sanitation efforts cannot depend solely on government interventions and require active ownership by citizens, Panchayats and local communities.
During the meeting, the “Swachh Seva Assessment” was also launched for Gram Panchayats. The initiative aims to strengthen the assessment of sanitation-related activities at the village level while encouraging greater community participation in cleanliness and hygiene efforts.
Mundian said Punjab was committed to converting the objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva-2026 into visible action on the ground and ensuring that its impact continues beyond the campaign period. He emphasised that cleanliness, sanitation and responsible waste management should become part of everyday life.
Calling upon people across the state to participate wholeheartedly in the campaign, the Minister urged citizens to join cleanliness drives in their villages and communities and treat cleanliness as a shared responsibility rather than a time-bound campaign.
“Let us join hands to make Punjab clean and healthy and contribute towards the larger vision of a Swachh Bharat and a Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Principal Secretary, Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Ramvir; Head of Department Syed Sehrish Asgar; and other senior officers were also present during the meeting.
