Chandigarh, September 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab chief spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Tuesday accused the Congress of avoiding questions over the 1984 anti-Sikh violence and said Congress leader Sachin Pilot would have to respond to Punjab’s questions about the role of party leaders, including Sajjan Kumar and Kamal Nath.

Reacting to the Congress rally in Chandigarh, Dhaliwal said Pilot had avoided answering questions about Sajjan Kumar and Kamal Nath when asked about their alleged links to the killings of Sikhs.

“Sachin Pilot, you cannot run away from these questions. You will have to answer these questions,” Dhaliwal said.

He alleged that the Congress would have to answer Punjabis and Sikhs for the killings during the 1984 violence. “The media will ask, and the people will also ask,” he said, adding that the issue would be raised by the AAP in Punjab repeatedly.

Dhaliwal said the Sikh community continued to carry the wounds of the violence and accused Congress leaders of attempting to avoid the issue. He said the party could not expect the matter to disappear by refusing to respond to questions about its leaders.

Targeting the Congress leadership over its show of unity at the Chandigarh rally, Dhaliwal said the presence of several leaders, including former chief ministers, would not change the questions being raised in Punjab.

“The Congress’ boat will sink here too, but remember, Punjabis and Sikhs will always ask you these questions and will continue to ask,” he said.

Dhaliwal demanded that the Congress clarify its position on leaders whom he alleged were responsible for the killings of Sikhs in Delhi, specifically naming Sajjan Kumar and Kamal Nath.

He said the Congress could not expect meaningful political engagement in Punjab without addressing the issue. “Give the answer, and only then will the conversation move forward. Otherwise, it will not move forward,” he said.

Addressing Pilot directly, Dhaliwal said, “You have come to Punjab. Punjab is asking you for an answer. First answer about those Congress leaders who were responsible for the massacre in Delhi.”

Dhaliwal reiterated that the 1984 violence remained an unresolved and deeply sensitive issue for the Sikh community and said Punjab would continue to demand answers from the Congress.
