Chandigarh, September 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Congress Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot over his visit to the state, demanding that the Congress leader answer questions about the party’s handling of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence before seeking votes in Punjab.

Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Pannu questioned the Congress’s political standing in Punjab and alleged that the party had continued to provide political protection and patronage to leaders linked to the 1984 Sikh massacre.

“It is highly surprising that Congress leaders who used to call themselves ‘sailors’ and dream of becoming Chief Minister have completely sunk the Congress ship. Now, a ‘Pilot’ has been sent to save the sinking ship,” Pannu said, referring to Pilot’s visit to Punjab.

Welcoming Pilot to Punjab, the AAP leader said the Congress leader should first explain the party’s record to Punjabis before asking them for votes.

Pannu specifically questioned the Congress’s association with leaders including Sajjan Kumar and Kamal Nath, whom he described as among the main accused in the 1984 massacre.

“Why has Congress always wronged minorities and why has it continued to keep those accused in the openly perpetrated 1984 Sikh massacre close even till today?” he asked.

Pannu further alleged that Congress had provided protection and political patronage to Sajjan Kumar and Kamal Nath and questioned why, according to him, Congress leaders continued to regard such figures as political idols.

“With what moral standing is the Congress party, which shed Sikh blood on the streets of Delhi, seeking votes from Punjabis today? Punjab can never forget 1984,” Pannu said.

He demanded that Pilot clarify which Congress leaders were involved in the 1984 violence, why those accused had allegedly been protected for years and when the Congress would stop treating them as political icons.
