The Punjab Government on Monday ordered the transfer and posting of two senior IAS officers with immediate effect, reallocating key responsibilities relating to Power, Industries and Commerce, Investment Promotion and Information Technology.
According to the orders issued by Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, IAS (2001) has been posted as Principal Secretary, Social Security, Women & Child Development.
He has additionally been given the charge of Principal Secretary, Power; Principal Secretary, New & Renewable Energy Sources; Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. (PSPCL); and Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Punjab State Transmission Corporation Ltd. (PSTCL).
Singh was presently serving as Principal Secretary, Social Security, Women & Child Development, with additional charges as Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce; Principal Secretary, Investment Promotion; and Principal Secretary, Promotion of Information Technology Industry.
Meanwhile, Basant Garg, IAS (2005) has been posted as Administrative Secretary, Industries & Commerce.
He will additionally hold the charges of Administrative Secretary, Investment Promotion and Administrative Secretary, Promotion of Information Technology Industry. He takes over these additional responsibilities from Gurkirat Kirpal Singh.
Prior to the latest order, Garg was serving as Administrative Secretary, Power, with additional charges of Administrative Secretary, New & Renewable Energy Sources; Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Punjab State Transmission Corporation Ltd.; and Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd.
The government has directed both officers to join their new places of posting immediately.
The transfer and posting order, issued on September 14, 2026, has been made on administrative grounds.
