Guru Nanak Dev University alumnus and Brand Ambassador Jaspreet Singh Attorney has taken the university’s international outreach to a prominent platform in the United States by highlighting GNDU and its upcoming Amritsar-450 initiative during interactions with leading American political figures in New York.
At a dinner hosted by Hakeem Jeffries, Leader of the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives, Jaspreet Singh Attorney interacted with Jeffries and briefed him on Guru Nanak Dev University’s academic and research profile, along with its initiatives aimed at strengthening international academic and community engagement.
He also shared details of GNDU’s plans to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the founding of Sri Amritsar Sahib in 2027 through a series of academic, cultural and international programmes under the banner of Amritsar-450.
The initiative aims to bring together scholars, institutions, community leaders and members of the Punjabi and Sikh diaspora to reflect on Amritsar’s rich heritage and collectively envision its future.
During the gathering, Jaspreet Singh Attorney also interacted with former US President Barack Obama and Congressman Josh Gottheimer. Discussions covered wider issues concerning the Sikh community, immigration and challenges faced by truckers.
GNDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh appreciated the efforts of Jaspreet Singh Attorney in taking the message of Guru Nanak Dev University to influential international forums. He said the participation and support of the global Punjabi and Sikh diaspora would be an important dimension of Amritsar-450.
“Amritsar belongs not only to its residents; its spiritual and civilisational message has a global resonance. Through Amritsar-450, Guru Nanak Dev University aspires to connect the city’s extraordinary heritage with a forward-looking vision based on scholarship, dialogue, service and Sarbat da Bhala,” Prof. Karamjeet Singh said.
He added that such international interactions would help enhance GNDU’s global visibility and build wider engagement for the year-long Amritsar-450 initiative.
