Malerkotla Police has intensified its crackdown on drug peddlers and suppliers under the statewide ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, registering 42 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arresting 61 accused persons between September 3 and 11.
During the coordinated action, police recovered 406 grams of heroin and 737 intoxicant pills. In a separate case involving a commercial quantity of heroin, one accused was arrested and 260 grams of heroin was recovered.
The operations were carried out through coordinated Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) at locations across the district where complaints and information regarding drug sales had been received. Police teams searched and checked targeted locations to identify persons involved in the possession, sale and supply of narcotic substances.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Malerkotla, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, said the operations were aimed at reaching individuals and locations linked to the illegal drug trade and generating information that could help dismantle the wider drug supply chain.
The CASO operation was planned by SP-D Ramandeep Bhullar, who assigned specific targets to all Sub-Divisional DSPs, DSP-D, the Inspector, CIA and Station House Officers (SHOs). The teams subsequently conducted searches and checks based on available intelligence and information.
SSP Khakh said public participation remained crucial in identifying drug peddlers and their associates. He appealed to residents to report drug peddling, trafficking, sale of narcotics or any suspicious activity in their areas.
He assured residents that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
SSP Khakh said the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign would continue, with Malerkotla Police committed to coordinated and strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
