A large number of devotees paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib on Saturday on the occasion of the First Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Devotees participated in Gurbani kirtan and Gurmat programmes at both historic Sikh shrines, expressing their reverence for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Following the bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib, a Nagar Kirtan was organised in accordance with traditional Sikh customs. It was taken from Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib to Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib under the canopy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and led by the Panj Pyare.
At the departure of the Nagar Kirtan, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib’s Head Granthi Giani Amarjit Singh, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Tek Singh honoured the Panj Pyare, Nishanchi and Nagarchi Singhs with siropas.
Giani Amarjit Singh shared Gurbani teachings with the devotees and said the sacred Gurbani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji forms the foundation of a Sikh’s life. He urged Sikhs to follow the path shown by Gurbani and live according to Gurmat principles.
Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami also extended greetings on the occasion and appealed to devotees to make Gurmat values an integral part of their lives. He said the Fifth Sikh Master, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, compiled the Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib to connect the Sikh community with Gurbani, which, he said, guides humanity towards a meaningful and peaceful life.
Dhami also encouraged devotees to remain connected with daily Gurbani recitation and embrace the Khalsa way of life.
The Nagar Kirtan featured Gatka demonstrations by Sikh youths and Shabad Kirtan by various groups. Devotees along the route also organised langars serving a variety of traditional food.
A large number of Sikh religious personalities, SGPC office-bearers and members, representatives of various organisations and societies, and devotees participated in the religious observances.
