Delhi Police have arrested three people for allegedly painting pro-Khalistan graffiti at the Singhu Border on the outskirts of the national capital, purportedly at the behest of US-based Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, official sources said on Saturday.
According to police sources, the accused allegedly painted the slogans and graffiti on walls at the Delhi-Haryana border on September 6. Pannun, chief of the banned organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), subsequently claimed responsibility for the act in a post on X.
Investigators reportedly traced the suspects using CCTV footage from the area. All three accused were subsequently arrested, and police have also recovered the car allegedly used in the act.
Sources said one of the accused was in direct contact with Pannun. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has registered an FIR and launched a detailed investigation into the case.
The arrests come amid heightened scrutiny of overseas pro-Khalistan networks and their alleged links with criminal activities. Intelligence officials have claimed that some such groups have altered their operational approach amid increased coordination between Indian and international security agencies.
According to an Intelligence Bureau official cited in the report, the crackdown on alleged violence, extortion, narcotics smuggling and money laundering networks has made it increasingly difficult for these groups to operate through criminal channels.
The official claimed that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was encouraging organisations such as SFJ to focus more on political activities, including referendums, marches and campaigns demanding a separate Khalistan.
Security agencies are continuing to examine the alleged links between the arrested individuals, Pannun and wider overseas networks as part of the investigation.
