Punjab has stepped up preparations for the next phase of its ‘Yudh Nasha Mukti’ anti-drug campaign with a state-level training programme organised at the Police Training Centre in Phillaur on Friday.
Around 500 guest speakers, including Zone Coordinators, District Coordinators and Halqa Coordinators, participated in the programme, while nearly 700 participants in all received training.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora was the chief guest. Addressing the participants, he urged campaign functionaries and guest speakers to take the anti-drug drive to the grassroots and further strengthen its impact across the state.
The training was aimed at preparing participants for public awareness meetings scheduled to begin on September 20 in more than 15,000 villages and wards across Punjab.
During these meetings, the public will be informed about the progress achieved under the ‘Yudh Nasha Mukti’ campaign, action against drug traffickers, arrests made, efforts to facilitate the rehabilitation of people affected by drug addiction through de-addiction centres and other initiatives undertaken to combat drugs.
The meetings will also provide an opportunity to discuss challenges encountered during the campaign and explain the strategy for making the anti-drug drive broader and more effective in the coming period.
Halqa-Level Preparation Meetings from September 14 to 17
Before the village and ward-level meetings, preparatory meetings will be held at the Halqa level from September 14 to 17. These meetings will be chaired by the respective MLA and Halqa In-charge.
Officials from the police and civil administrations, members of the concerned Halqa team, and VDC Conveners and Acting Presidents of villages and wards will participate in the meetings.
The objective will be to finalise coordination, planning and the framework for the public meetings starting September 20.
Participants at the Phillaur training programme were briefed in detail about both stages of the campaign — the Halqa-level preparations from September 14 to 17 and the village and ward-level outreach beginning September 20.
At the end of the programme, participants pledged to take the ‘Yudh Nasha Mukti’ campaign effectively to every village and ward and said they would discharge their responsibilities with seriousness to support the goal of making Punjab drug-free.
