Punjab Police on Thursday conducted 601 raids at identified locations linked to associates of gangsters as the state-wide ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign entered its 234th day, arresting 261 people and taking the total number of arrests under the drive to 69,703.
The operation, aimed at making Punjab a gangster-free state, was launched by Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026. Special teams from districts across the state have been conducting coordinated operations in collaboration with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab.
During Thursday’s operation, police also recovered four weapons and arrested eight Proclaimed Offenders (POs). Preventive action was taken against another 236 individuals.
Punjab Police has urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and other criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. The information can be provided anonymously.
81 Drug Smugglers Arrested Under ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’
Meanwhile, Punjab Police continued its anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, for the 559th consecutive day.
Police arrested 81 alleged drug smugglers during the day and recovered 1.3 kg of heroin, 530 grams of opium, 7,359 intoxicant pills and Rs 710 in drug money from their possession.
With the latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has reached 77,690 in 559 days.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded six individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Thursday.
