Amritsar Soormas strengthened their playoff bid in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League with a thrilling nine-run victory over Jalandhar Warriors on Thursday, securing their third consecutive win and moving into second place in the standings.
Batting first, Amritsar posted 178/9, with Naman Dhir once again producing a spectacular innings. Fresh from his match-winning 173 in the previous game, Dhir smashed 95 off just 48 balls, including six fours and eight sixes.
His innings came at a strike rate of 197.92 and provided the Soormas with the momentum they needed to set Jalandhar a challenging target.
Jalandhar Warriors mounted a determined chase, with Randeep Singh scoring 32 off 22 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh contributed 28 and Aryan Yadav made 26. However, Amritsar’s bowlers kept taking wickets at crucial stages to restrict the Warriors to 169/8.
Jaipartap Singh Johal, Akash Pandey and Shubham Rana claimed two wickets each, while Dhir also contributed with the ball, returning figures of 1/15.
The victory lifted Amritsar Soormas to eight points from seven matches, putting them second in the table ahead of Jalandhar on net run rate. With three successive wins behind them, the Soormas are firmly in contention for a top-four finish.
Amritsar will play their final league-stage match against Ludhiana Lions on Friday, September 11, at 7 p.m. at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The Soormas will look to carry their winning momentum into the crucial encounter and secure their place in the playoffs.
In another key fixture, Mohali Kings stormed into the semifinals with a five-wicket victory over Bathinda Royals at the I.S. Bindra Stadium on Wednesday.
Chasing 185, Mohali endured a disastrous start, losing two wickets for just four runs. Captain Ramandeep Singh then took charge alongside Anmolpreet Singh, who scored 49 off 28 balls, as the pair added 52 runs for the third wicket.
Ramandeep remained unbeaten on a blistering 71 off 36 balls to guide Mohali Kings across the line and into the semifinals.
