Raghav Chadha Trying to Defame Punjab Over Voter Registration Issue: MLA Kuldeep Dhaliwal

Chandigarh, September 10, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Thursday accused the BJP and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha of attempting to defame Punjab and the Bhagwant Mann government over the deletion of Chadha’s name from the voters’ list in Mohali.

Addressing a press conference, Dhaliwal alleged that the issue was taken up at the national level to create a narrative that the Punjab government had deliberately removed Chadha’s vote.

Dhaliwal said information sought by the AAP from the Election Commission indicated that Chadha’s voter registration in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar had already been completed. He questioned how the registration process was completed so quickly when ordinary citizens often have to wait weeks or months after submitting applications.

“People are running after BLOs, SDM offices and tehsildar offices for their voter registrations. What special provision was given in this case?” Dhaliwal asked.

He also questioned the process through which Chadha’s Delhi address was verified.

“Who verified Raghav Chadha’s residence? When the information available indicates that his Delhi residence and the address at which the vote was registered were different, who carried out the verification?” he asked.

Dhaliwal claimed that Chadha’s Rajinder Nagar residence had remained closed for some time and sought clarification from the Election Commission on who processed and verified the application and under what provisions the registration was completed so quickly.

The AAP leader alleged that the BJP had repeatedly attempted to target Punjab and the Bhagwant Mann government on political, social, agricultural and drug-related issues, among others.

He accused Chadha of contributing to what he described as an attempt to portray Punjab and its government negatively, despite the state having supported his elevation to the Rajya Sabha.

“Punjabis will not accept attempts to malign Punjab,” Dhaliwal said, while accusing Chadha of betraying the state and the party that helped him become a Rajya Sabha member.

Dhaliwal maintained that the AAP had neither sought deletion of anyone’s vote nor asked for the creation of any illegal voter registration.

“The Election Commission should place the complete facts before the people,” he said, arguing that if voter registration could be completed quickly in this case, ordinary citizens should also be told why they are required to visit government offices repeatedly and wait for weeks or months.

Dhaliwal said the BJP and Chadha should stop using the issue to defame Punjab and the Mann government. He added that the AAP would continue to raise such issues and place its version of the facts before the public.
