Jalandhar Warriors held their nerve in a tense finish to defeat Ludhiana Lions by seven runs in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League at the I.S. Bindra Stadium here.
Batting first, Jalandhar posted 169/8 in 20 overs after Ludhiana’s bowlers made an early impact. The Warriors were in trouble at 16/3 in the second over before Prabhsimran Singh and Gourav Makan steadied the innings.
Prabhsimran scored 39 off 30 balls before being dismissed, while Gourav continued his impressive form with a crucial 52 off 43 deliveries. Aryan Yadav then provided the late impetus, remaining unbeaten on 35 off 26 balls to take Jalandhar to a competitive total.
For Ludhiana, Krish Bhagat was the standout bowler, claiming 4/37 in four overs. Kartik Chadha returned figures of 1/21.
Ludhiana began its chase positively, with Abhijeet Garg and Bikramjeet Singh adding 49 for the opening wicket. However, the Lions slipped to 79/3 before Arjun Rajput and Salil Arora revived the innings with a 54-run partnership.
Rajput made 45 off 33 balls, while Salil contributed 26 off 24. Ludhiana required 19 runs from the final two overs and Krish Bhagat kept the contest alive by hitting a six from the last delivery of the 19th over, leaving the Lions needing 10 from six balls.
Randeep Singh was entrusted with the final over and produced a decisive spell. He dismissed Aseem Kohli for 11 off seven balls from the first delivery before removing Havneet for a duck with the next two balls.
Krish Bhagat returned to strike with two balls remaining and attempted another big hit, but could manage only a single. With eight required from the final delivery, Ludhiana failed to score as Jalandhar completed a thrilling seven-run victory.
The Lions finished on 162/8, despite their determined late fightback.
