Punjab Police have arrested a Ludhiana-based drug smuggler and recovered 1.964 kg of “ice” (crystal methamphetamine) from his possession in the Sandhe Hasham area of Ferozepur district.
SSP Bhupinder Singh identified the accused as Harshdeep Singh alias Piyush, a resident of Ludhiana. According to the SSP, the accused had recently received a consignment of drugs and allegedly travelled to Ferozepur to sell it.
Acting on specific information, police laid a trap near Sandhe Hasham village and intercepted the accused while he was travelling in a car bearing registration number PB 10 AE 6262.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 1.964 kg of ice from his possession.
Police have registered an FIR against Harshdeep Singh under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Kulgarhi police station. The case has been registered as FIR No. 170.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said further investigation was in progress to trace the source of the contraband and identify other persons allegedly involved in the drug network.
