More than 1,000 students, youngsters, children, senior citizens, sportspersons and residents participated in a 6.5-km ‘Run for Equality’ Marathon organised by the Rupnagar District Administration on Sunday as part of events marking the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.
Rupnagar MLA Advocate Dinesh Chadha, SSP Maninder Singh and Additional Deputy Commissioner Chandrajyoti Singh, along with other prominent personalities, flagged off the marathon from Dr BR Ambedkar Bhawan in Giani Zail Singh Nagar. The run passed through different parts of the city before returning to the starting point.
The event conveyed messages of equality, brotherhood, unity, peace and healthy living, while encouraging participants to reflect on the teachings of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.
Chadha said the Bani and philosophy of Guru Ravidas Ji carried a universal message of equality, mutual respect and brotherhood. He said the marathon was intended not only to promote sports among young people but also to connect the new generation with Guru Sahib’s philosophy through sporting activities.
He added that sports could channel youthful energy constructively while fostering discipline, tolerance, team spirit and self-confidence. Chadha also congratulated participants for their enthusiastic response.
Gurpreet Singh GP, president of the AAP SC Wing Punjab, participated in the marathon and presented medals to youngsters, students, children and senior citizens. He said the teachings of Guru Ravidas Ji continued to inspire humanity and that equality was the foundation of a strong society.
SSP Maninder Singh said sporting and physical activities contribute to a healthy and disciplined society. He said participation by people across age groups in the marathon conveyed a positive message of unity and brotherhood to the younger generation.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Chandrajyoti Singh said the district administration was organising various activities to mark the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji, with the aim of taking his teachings to the people and connecting youth with his philosophy.
District Sports Officer Jagjivan Singh thanked more than 1,000 participants and acknowledged the contribution of departments, officers, coaches, volunteers and residents in making the event successful. He said such initiatives promote healthy living and sports while strengthening the values of equality, unity and brotherhood.
