Punjab Cabinet Approves Three Foodgrain Policies for Kharif 2026-27, Clears 138 New Healthcare Posts

The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, on Saturday approved three key policies aimed at ensuring smooth procurement, milling, transportation and lifting of paddy during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2026-27.

The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Punjab Public Service Commission (Group ‘A’) Service Regulations, 2012, revival of 33 posts at the Sub-Divisional Hospital, Chamkaur Sahib, creation of 138 new healthcare posts and filling of 80 vacant Medical Officer (Dental) posts.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.

Three Foodgrain Policies Cleared

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Cabinet approved the Punjab Custom Milling Policy for Kharif 2026-27, Punjab Foodgrains Transportation Policy 2027 and Punjab Foodgrains Labour & Cartage Policy 2027.

The government reiterated its commitment to lifting every grain procured from farmers during the upcoming paddy season. The Cabinet also authorised Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make amendments to the policies if required due to administrative exigencies during the procurement season.

Changes in PPSC Service Regulations

The Cabinet approved amendments to the Punjab Public Service Commission (Group ‘A’) Service Regulations, 2012.

The amendment will enable the issuance of a notification providing for promotion from the post of Personal Assistant to Personal Secretary in the Punjab Public Service Commission.

33 Posts Revived at Chamkaur Sahib Hospital

To strengthen healthcare services in Chamkaur Sahib and adjoining areas, the Cabinet approved the revival of 33 posts at the Sub-Divisional Hospital, Chamkaur Sahib.

The hospital was upgraded from a Community Health Centre. The revived posts include Medical Officers in Medicine, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, Pathology, Ophthalmology and Radiology, besides MBBS General, Nursing Sister, Senior Assistant/Accountant, Staff Nurse, OTA, Driver and Clerk, among others.

138 New Healthcare Posts Approved

The Cabinet also approved 19 new posts across various cadres for the Office of the Civil Surgeon, Malerkotla, to improve administrative functioning and healthcare delivery in the district.

Another 119 posts were approved for the Sub-Divisional Hospital, Dhuri and the newly constructed MCH Centre there, with the aim of providing more comprehensive and advanced healthcare services.

In addition, the Cabinet cleared the filling of 80 vacant Medical Officer (Dental) posts in the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Of these, 53 posts have remained vacant for more than a year, while 27 have been vacant for less than a year.
