A state-level educational convention was organised at Rayat Bahra Professional University in Hoshiarpur on Teachers’ Day, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the university joining hands to discuss reforms aimed at strengthening Punjab’s education system.
The event was presided over by S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group and Chancellor of the university, along with Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Chander Mohan. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia attended the convention as the chief guest.
The gathering was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Hoshiarpur MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa, Dasuya MLA Karamveer Singh Ghuman, Tanda MLA Jasvir Singh Raja Gill, Chabbewal MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar, Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, Mayor Parveen Saini and Mukerian constituency in-charge Sarabjot Singh Sabi, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Sisodia said modernising educational infrastructure and adopting advanced teaching methods were essential for securing the future of Punjab’s youth.
He said meaningful social transformation begins in classrooms and emphasised the need to equip teachers with modern tools while upgrading basic learning facilities to world-class standards. Such measures, he said, could help Punjab emerge as a global centre of academic excellence.
S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra highlighted the role of teachers in nation-building and said the Rayat Bahra Group was committed to connecting academic education with global competencies and industry readiness. He also expressed support for reforms aimed at improving the state’s education ecosystem.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Chander Mohan said higher education institutions must promote research, innovation and critical thinking through adaptive learning environments capable of preparing students for evolving international challenges.
The convention concluded with Bahra and Dr. Chander Mohan expressing gratitude to the visiting ministers, parliamentarians, legislators, administrative officials and educators for their participation and contribution to the discussion on improving the quality of education in Punjab.
