Amritsar Soormas opened their account in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026 with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Fazilka Falcons at the I.S. Bindra Stadium, Mohali, on Wednesday.
Batting first, Fazilka posted 182/9 in their 20 overs after recovering from an early setback. The Falcons were reduced to 38/2 before Vihaan Malhotra and Sanvir Singh steadied the innings with an 83-run partnership for the third wicket.
Malhotra struck a brisk 60 off 34 balls, while Sanvir continued the assault with 63 off 35. However, Amritsar’s bowlers produced an impressive finish, regularly picking up wickets to prevent Fazilka from posting a bigger total.
Akash Pandey was the standout bowler for the Soormas, claiming 2/27 in four overs, while Mayank Markande delivered an economical spell of 1/12 in two overs. Amritsar also impressed in the field, with sharp catches and energetic work inside the circle keeping the Falcons under pressure.
Chasing 183, Amritsar endured an early wobble and slipped to 39/3. Captain Abhishek Sharma provided a quick-fire 21 off nine balls but could not carry on.
With the Soormas in trouble, Naman Dhir and Abhay Choudhary took charge of the chase. Dhir continued his excellent run of form, smashing an unbeaten 88 off 48 balls, while Choudhary complemented him with an unbeaten 58 off 35 balls.
The pair stitched together an unbeaten 147-run partnership to completely turn the match around. Their assault took Amritsar to 183/3 in just 18.1 overs, sealing a seven-wicket win with 11 balls to spare.
The victory earned Amritsar Soormas their first points of the tournament and capped an all-round performance, with the bowlers and fielders setting up the contest before Dhir and Choudhary finished the chase emphatically.
