The Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) and its alliance partners secured six of the eight seats in the latest Panjab University student elections, with the group making a strong showing in the Evening Department and winning key office-bearer positions.
ASAP candidate Harmanpreet Singh Khokhar was elected President of the Evening Department, while Jobanpreet Singh of the USO-ASAP alliance won the Vice-President post. Savitaz Kaur, contesting for the SOPU-ASAP alliance, was elected General Secretary.
In the Evening Department presidential contest, Khokhar finished first, followed by the Student Front in second place and ABVP in third.
The results marked a strong recovery for ASAP after the organisation finished second in the Morning Department presidential election, where ABVP emerged victorious.
The ASAP-led alliance also secured two important positions in the Morning Department. Arman Bhinder of PUDF, contesting in alliance with ASAP, was elected Vice-President, while Vishal Bamal, an Independent candidate backed by ASAP, won the Joint Secretary post.
The successful candidates from the two departments are:
Evening Department
- President: Harmanpreet Singh Khokhar — ASAP
- Vice-President: Jobanpreet Singh — USO, in alliance with ASAP
- General Secretary: Savitaz Kaur — SOPU, in alliance with ASAP
Morning Department
- Vice-President: Arman Bhinder — PUDF, in alliance with ASAP
- Joint Secretary: Vishal Bamal — Independent, in alliance with ASAP
The electoral outcome gives ASAP and its partner organisations a strengthened presence across the university’s student leadership structure.
While the organisation could not secure the Morning Department presidency, its decisive performance in the Evening Department, including Khokhar’s victory, enabled the alliance to consolidate its position across several key posts.
The Student Front and ABVP finished second and third respectively in the Evening Department presidential contest, adding another dimension to the latest campus electoral results.
