The first Military Literature Festival Amritsar-2026 will be held at Khalsa University on August 31 and September 1, bringing together discussions on India’s security, military history, warfare strategies and significant military events associated with the region.
The two-day festival is being organised by the Military Literature Festival Association.
Lt Gen (Dr) J S Cheema, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, said the event aims to familiarise students, young people and the wider public with the country’s military heritage, security concerns and warfare strategies. He said the festival would also highlight the significant military history associated with Amritsar.
The programme on August 31 will begin with a discussion on “West Asia in Turmoil and Stakes for India” from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. This will be followed by a session on “Jallianwala Massacre – Bitter Legacy: Crimson Spring” from noon to 1.30 p.m.
On September 1, a special session titled “1965 Indo-Pak War – Operations in Amritsar Sector” will be held from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The session will examine the military operations conducted in the Amritsar sector during the 1965 India-Pakistan war, along with historical aspects connected to the conflict.
Lt Gen (Dr) Cheema also said Lieutenant General T.S. Shergill, PVSM, PhD (Retd.) would participate specially in the festival.
He appealed to students, youth and people interested in history and military affairs to attend the event in large numbers. Such programmes, he said, provide the younger generation with an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of India’s security environment and military history.
