Jalandhar, August 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Lovely Professional University (LPU) B.Tech Aerospace Engineering student Nikhilan J.M. has been selected to represent India in the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Technology category at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China.

WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 is set to bring together more than 1,400 competitors from over 70 countries and regions across 64 skill categories, providing an international platform for vocational and technical excellence.

Nikhilan secured his place in the Indian contingent following a strong performance in the national selection process. He first won a gold medal at the Regional Skills Competition before earning a silver medal in the UAS Technology category at IndiaSkills Competition 2025-26.

At the global event, competitors in UAS Technology will be assessed on their ability to assemble, configure, calibrate, programme, troubleshoot, repair and operate advanced unmanned aerial systems while carrying out complex real-world missions in line with international industry standards.

The competition will test technical accuracy alongside innovation, problem-solving, teamwork and the ability to perform under intense competitive conditions.

Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Rajya Sabha MP and Founder Chancellor of LPU, congratulated Nikhilan and said skilled human capital would be crucial to a country’s strength in the emerging global knowledge economy.

“At LPU, we have built an ecosystem where industry exposure, research, innovation, and experiential learning come together to enable students to translate their potential into global competence. I am confident Nikhilan will compete with distinction and inspire countless young Indians to pursue excellence in advanced technologies,” Mittal said.

Nikhilan’s selection also highlights the university’s Department of Student Research & Projects (DSRP), where students undertake industry-oriented research and technology projects under the guidance of faculty members, researchers and industry experts.

LPU said its innovation facilities cover areas including robotics, drone technology, artificial intelligence, automation, embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT), product design and advanced manufacturing, providing students with practical exposure to technology and real-world problem-solving.
