The acclaimed play ‘Hamare Ram’, featuring renowned actor Ashutosh Rana and his team, will be staged at CT Institute’s Shahpur campus in Jalandhar on August 28 and 29, Punjab Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat and Punjab Government Culture and Tourism Advisor Deepak Bali said on Monday.
The play, based on the Ramayana, presents the life, values and philosophy of Lord Ram. Two shows will be held each day, and the organisers have invited residents to attend the performances in large numbers.
Addressing a press conference, Bhagat, who holds the portfolios of Horticulture, Freedom Fighters and Defence Services Welfare, and Bali said the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was according priority to respecting all religions and promoting communal harmony.
The press conference was also attended by Halqa In-charge Nitin Kohli, District Traders Commission Chairman Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, senior leaders Indervansh Singh Chadda, Pooja Singh and Roop Sandhu.
Bhagat and Bali said the staging of ‘Hamare Ram’ would highlight the spiritual message and values associated with Sanatan Dharma. They said the performance would provide people, particularly the younger generation, an opportunity to engage with the spiritual teachings associated with Lord Ram and understand the values reflected in his personality, simple life and devotion to dharma.
The two leaders said the state government had undertaken initiatives to promote religious harmony and preserve Punjab’s spiritual heritage. They cited the ‘Ek Shaam Bhagwan Shiv Ke Naam’ programme, which they said received an overwhelming response across the state.
They also highlighted the development of Kali Mata Temple in Patiala at a cost of ₹80 crore and the proposal to construct Mata Sita and Luv-Kush temples at Ram Tirath in Amritsar.
Bhagat and Bali said the Punjab Government respected saints and spiritual leaders belonging to all faiths. They pointed to the successful commemoration of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the year-long celebrations of the 650th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji.
They also said that the present government had, for the first time, celebrated Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti at the state level.
The minister and advisor appealed to people to attend the ‘Hamare Ram’ performances and make the two-day event a success.
