Punjab Police, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), has foiled an alleged cross-border narcotics smuggling attempt in Ferozepur with the recovery of 44.5 kg of heroin and 3 kg of methamphetamine, commonly known as ICE.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said the narcotics consignment had allegedly been airdropped from across the border using a drone. The recovery was made from agricultural fields near Gajniwala village in Ferozepur.
The operation was conducted by Counter Intelligence (CI) Ferozepur and the BSF following specific intelligence inputs. Acting on information about drone movement near the India-Pakistan border, CI Ferozepur shared the inputs with the BSF, following which joint teams launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
Inspector General of Police, Counter Intelligence, Ashish Choudhary said the teams thoroughly searched the surrounding fields and recovered the consignment containing heroin and ICE.
He said further investigation was underway to identify the persons who sent the drugs from across the border as well as their Indian associates who were allegedly supposed to receive the consignment.
The investigation will also focus on establishing the forward and backward linkages of the suspected cross-border smuggling network and identifying all those involved, officials said.
A case has been registered against unidentified persons at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Fazilka. FIR No. 19, dated August 25, 2026, has been registered under Sections 21C and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The recovery comes amid the Punjab Government’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and efforts to make the state drug-free.
