Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to provide a special incentive of ₹525 per vaccination session to contractual Multipurpose Health Workers, with the benefit capped at four sessions a month.
Chairing a series of Cabinet Sub-Committee meetings on employees’ issues, Cheema said the incentive could provide eligible workers with an additional monthly income of up to ₹2,100. He also directed the department to forward the workers’ case for regularisation of services to the concerned committee for consideration.
Representatives of the Contract Multipurpose Health Worker Union thanked the Finance Minister for the incentive as well as the introduction of Uniform Allowance and Tour Allowance.
Cheema, who is also Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address employee grievances, directed departments to expedite the examination and resolution of legitimate demands, including issues related to service regularisation and employee welfare.
During a meeting with the Janglat Workers Union, the minister asked the Forest Department to coordinate actively with the Personnel Department to address the workers’ genuine demands at the earliest.
He also met representatives of the Punjab Pardesh Palledar Union and directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to examine and resolve their legitimate concerns amicably.
In another meeting, Cheema heard representatives of several Power Department employee organisations, including the Powercom and Transco Theka Mulazam Union, Outsourced Employees Federation, Powercom Meter Reader Union Azad, G.H.T.P Contractor Worker’s Union (AITUC) and Sanjha Manch Thermal Contract Worker Union Ropar.
The unions submitted a charter of demands seeking inclusion of all remaining employee categories under the regularisation policy. They also sought timely salary enhancements, adequate compensation and social security support in cases of workplace injuries and fatal accidents.
Cheema assured the representatives that the state government was sympathetically considering their demands and would take appropriate action at the earliest.
Those who raised issues during the meetings included Sarbjit Kaur, Satinder Kaur, Prabhdeep Kaur and Amrik Singh Mohali from the Contract Multipurpose Health Worker Union; Balihar Singh from the Powercom and Transco Theka Mulazam Union; Kuljit Singh from the Outsourced Employees Federation; Gurwinder Singh from the Powercom Meter Reader Union Azad; Sukhwinder Singh from the G.H.T.P Contractor Worker’s Union (AITUC); Balwinder Singh Saini from the Sanjha Manch Thermal Contract Worker Union; Amrik Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Amandeep Singh and Sulakhan Singh from the Janglat Workers Union; and Amarjit Singh, Dhanna Singh, Gurdhian Singh, Randhir Singh and Karamjit Singh from the Punjab Pardesh Palledar Union.
