National Lok Adalat to be held in Fatehgarh Sahib courts on September 12

Fatehgarh Sahib, August 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A National Lok Adalat will be organised on September 12 at the courts in Fatehgarh Sahib district and at the sub-divisional level to facilitate the amicable settlement of cases that are legally eligible for compromise.

District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib, Nirbhow Singh Gill, said cases would be taken up for settlement through mutual consent of the parties.

He said meetings were being held at the district level with judicial officers as well as representatives of banks, insurance companies, water supply authorities, PSPCL and BSNL to ensure that the maximum possible number of cases could be resolved through the Lok Adalat and provide relief to the public.

The National Lok Adalat will consider a wide range of pending and pre-litigation matters, including civil cases, compoundable criminal cases, bank recovery matters, cheque-bounce cases, labour disputes, electricity and water bill-related disputes and family disputes.

District and Sessions Judge Gill appealed to residents to make use of the Lok Adalat for resolving their disputes, except serious criminal cases.

He said settlement through the Lok Adalat provides significant relief to both parties by offering an opportunity to resolve disputes through mutual agreement.

Court fees are not charged for cases settled through the Lok Adalat. Legal aid, including free services of lawyers, is also provided to eligible persons in need.

The initiative is aimed at facilitating speedy and amicable resolution of disputes while reducing the burden of litigation on courts and providing accessible legal remedies to citizens.
