Farmers Can Get Up to Rs 80,000 Subsidy for Mushroom Production Units: Mohinder Bhagat

Chandigarh, August 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Government is promoting mushroom cultivation and other high-value horticultural crops as part of its efforts to encourage crop diversification and increase farmers’ income, Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat said on Monday.

Bhagat said farmers setting up mushroom production units can avail themselves of a subsidy of up to 40 per cent, subject to a maximum assistance of Rs 80,000, under the state government’s support measures.

He said the financial assistance would help farmers take up mushroom cultivation as an additional income-generating activity. Since mushroom production requires comparatively less land, it can also provide a viable opportunity for small and marginal farmers, he added.

The minister said the Punjab Government was encouraging farmers to move beyond traditional farming by adopting horticulture and other high-value crops that can offer better returns.

He said the government’s focus was on helping farmers adopt more profitable agricultural practices through modern technologies, government schemes and financial assistance. Farmers can strengthen their incomes through crop diversification by taking advantage of various schemes implemented by the Horticulture Department, he added.

Bhagat said promoting horticulture and diversification was an important part of the government’s efforts to create additional income opportunities for the farming community.
