BJP national General Secretary B.L. Santosh on Monday said the party will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab in the upcoming elections and aims to form the government in the state.
“Punjab is fully ready for change, and the BJP is fully prepared to make this change a reality. In the upcoming Assembly elections, the BJP will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab and, by securing a victory, will form its government in the state,” Santosh said.
He was addressing the BJP’s first zonal meeting in Patiala on the opening day of his two-day organisational visit to Punjab.
Santosh was earlier welcomed at Mohali airport by Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and state co-in-charge Narendra Singh Raina.
During his visit, Santosh is reviewing the party’s organisational activities and preparations for the Assembly elections through meetings with BJP leaders and office-bearers in different regions of the state.
The meetings are focused on strengthening the organisation up to the booth level and taking the BJP’s policies and the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led Central government to the people.
Santosh chaired organisational meetings in Patiala and Bathinda on Monday. On August 25, zonal meetings are scheduled in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. A separate meeting with the state General Secretaries will also be held in Amritsar.
The organisational meetings are aimed at reviewing the BJP’s functioning across different regions of Punjab and strengthening coordination, electoral preparedness and grassroots participation of party workers.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s previous visit to Punjab on July 17, he had targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government at a rally in Jalandhar and also criticised the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal.
The Shiromani Akali Dal had been a longstanding ally of the BJP and was among the early supporters of the 13-day Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1996. However, the Akali Dal withdrew from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in September 2020 following differences over the three farm laws, which were subsequently repealed.
