Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said on Sunday that the support of women for Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in the 2027 Assembly elections would be even greater than the enthusiasm witnessed during the state-level Teej celebrations in Patiala.
Dr Balbir Singh made the remarks during a state-level Teej function attended by Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab State Women’s Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill and a large number of women and local residents.
Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann said Teej represents happiness, togetherness, brotherhood and love and is an important part of Punjab’s cultural heritage. She said such celebrations help connect younger generations with Punjab’s traditions and strengthen the state’s cultural identity.
She said the Punjab Government was organising Teej celebrations in villages and cities across the state to promote and preserve Punjabi traditions.
Highlighting the state government’s initiatives, Dr Mann said the Bhagwant Mann-led government had taken several steps to fulfil its commitments to the people. She referred to the Chief Minister Health Scheme, Mohalla Clinics and the Maawan-Dhiyaan Satkar Scheme, saying these initiatives were receiving widespread public support.
She also thanked Dr Balbir Singh for efficiently managing the large gathering and ensuring that adequate attention was given to the facilities and security of women attending the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Balbir Singh described the celebrations as a reflection of “Rangla Punjab”, showcasing Punjabi heritage, respect for women and the happiness of the people. He said such events were important for preserving Punjab’s cultural traditions and passing them on to younger generations.
The celebrations featured traditional Teej colours, cultural performances and enthusiastic participation by women. Phulkari, an important symbol of Punjabi culture, was also presented to women attending the function.
