Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria honoured international weightlifter Harjinder Kaur, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games (CWG)-2026, at Punjab Lok Bhavan in Chandigarh on Thursday.
Congratulating Harjinder on her latest international achievement, Kataria said her performance had brought pride to Punjab and the country. He commended the weightlifter for her dedication, discipline and perseverance, which he said had helped her maintain a strong presence on the international sporting stage.
Harjinder has previously represented India at the Commonwealth Games and won a bronze medal at the 2022 edition in Birmingham. Her silver medal at CWG-2026 adds to her international record and reflects her continued success in the sport.
Kataria said accomplished sportspersons such as Harjinder serve as role models for young people and can encourage greater participation in sports, particularly among girls. He expressed confidence that her achievements would inspire more youngsters to pursue sporting excellence.
The Governor wished Harjinder continued success in upcoming national and international competitions and expressed hope that she would win further honours for Punjab and India.
