The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jalandhar, organised a plantation drive across three educational institutions as part of its efforts to promote environmental conservation and green initiatives.
The drive was held at State Sports School, Jalandhar; Meritorious School, Jalandhar; and Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Gakhal, Dhaliwal, under the guidance of Priya Sood, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, DLSA, Jalandhar.
All Judicial Officers of the Jalandhar Sessions Division participated in the initiative and planted saplings across the premises of the participating schools.
Addressing the gathering, Priya Sood emphasised that environmental protection is a collective responsibility and said judicial leadership should extend beyond courtrooms to areas of social responsibility. She urged students and teachers to take ownership of the newly planted saplings and ensure their proper growth.
Sood said that students are the custodians of the future and that developing environmental awareness among young people is essential for building a sustainable society.
She also honoured students of the State Sports School, Jalandhar, for their outstanding achievements at the national and international levels in sports.
Sood further informed those present that needy persons can avail themselves of free legal aid under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, by contacting the toll-free helpline number 15100.
The plantation drive was coordinated and monitored by Rahul Kumar Azad, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Jalandhar. He and other DLSA officials highlighted the importance of nurturing the planted saplings to ensure the initiative delivers long-term environmental benefits.
DLSA Jalandhar expressed gratitude to Rajiv Joshi, Deputy District Education Officer, Jalandhar, and the principals of the three participating institutions—Ajay Kumar Bhari of State Sports School, Rajiv Handa of Meritorious School and Lalit Mohan of GSSS Gakhal, Dhaliwal—along with their staff members for their cooperation and support in successfully conducting the drive.
