Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled three alleged drug trafficking and illegal arms supply networks, arresting nine people, including two brothers, and recovering eight pistols, 8.536 kg of heroin and ₹12.95 lakh in suspected drug money, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Darshan Singh alias Channa (25) of Raniyan, currently residing in Jand Peer Colony, Amritsar; Satnam Singh (46) of Manjh; Mahabir Singh (34) of Rajoke, Tarn Taran; Lovepreet Singh alias Phula alias Love (24) of Kartar Nagar, Amritsar; Harman Singh alias Hamma (23) and Narinder Singh alias Roba (26) of Kale Ghanupur; Karan Singh alias Karan (22) of Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran; and brothers Gurjant Singh alias Ghudha (24) and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (21) of Bhalla Colony, Amritsar.
The recovered weapons comprise three .30-bore pistols, four 9mm Glock pistols and one .32-bore pistol, besides four live cartridges.
DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused involved in the drug and arms cases were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers and were receiving consignments of heroin and illegal weapons for further distribution among criminal elements. Police are probing their forward and backward linkages to identify additional members of the networks.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said the first operation followed specific intelligence inputs, leading to the arrest of Darshan Singh and Satnam Singh and recovery of two pistols. Their disclosures subsequently led police to Mahabir Singh and Lovepreet Singh, from whom four more pistols were recovered.
All four accused in the first case have previous criminal records, including cases registered under the NDPS Act involving commercial quantities of heroin, the Arms Act and theft-related offences.
In the second operation, police arrested Harman Singh, Narinder Singh and Karan Singh and recovered 3.5 kg of heroin, a pistol, four live cartridges and ₹12.10 lakh in suspected drug money. Their motorcycle, allegedly used in criminal activities, was also seized.
In the third operation, police arrested brothers Gurjant Singh and Gurpreet Singh and recovered 5.01 kg of heroin, a pistol and ₹85,000 in suspected drug proceeds. Police said the duo was allegedly involved in heroin trafficking.
Three FIRs have been registered: FIR No. 148 dated August 13, 2026, under Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act at Cantonment police station; FIR No. 191 dated August 18 under Section 21-B of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Chheharta police station; and FIR No. 189 dated August 18 under Sections 21-C, 27-A and 29 of the NDPS Act at Chheharta police station.
The investigation is continuing to trace the wider network and establish the complete supply chain.
