Punjab Police arrest three Bambiha gang members deported from Malaysia

Chandigarh, August 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Police have arrested three alleged operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang who were deported from Malaysia, in a major operation targeting transnational organised crime, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal of Faridkot, and Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh, both residents of Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan.

According to the DGP, the three were arrested at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport following their deportation from Malaysia and were subsequently brought to Punjab for further investigation.

Police said all three were key Malaysia-based operatives of the Bambiha gang and were wanted in multiple cases involving murder, extortion, explosives and an alleged plan to carry out a hand-grenade blast in Ludhiana, with links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Additional Director General of Police (Counter Intelligence) Amit Prasad said the deportation and arrests followed a months-long intelligence-led operation during which the movements and activities of the accused were closely monitored.

The coordinated operation resulted in their detention in Malaysia and subsequent deportation to India, he said.

Inspector General of Police (OFTEC) Ashish Choudhary said Jaspreet travelled to Malaysia in June 2019, where he allegedly came into contact with a fugitive gangster and subsequently joined the Bambiha gang, eventually becoming an important operative.

Jaspreet has been formally arrested in connection with the 2025 murder of Yadwinder Singh and the driver of Jeewanjot Singh Chahal, a former Panjab University, Chandigarh, leader, police said.

Ajay and Pawandeep were allegedly involved in directing ground operatives to carry out a hand-grenade attack in Ludhiana in 2025. The Ludhiana Commissionerate Police subsequently foiled the alleged plot by arresting two associates and recovering a P86 Chinese hand grenade on October 27, 2025.

Punjab Police said the operation is part of the state’s efforts to dismantle overseas criminal networks and bring fugitives back to India to face legal proceedings.

On the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state police established the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) to track criminals operating from abroad and expedite their deportation or extradition to Punjab.
