Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will inaugurate the 2026 edition of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Multipurpose Sports Stadium in Bathinda on September 5, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman said on Tuesday.
The Deputy Commissioner made the announcement while reviewing preparations for the state-level sporting event at a special meeting with officials.
Bathinda will host the inaugural ceremony, which will feature a march-past by international and national-level sportspersons. The ceremonial torch of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ will also reach Bathinda after travelling through all districts of the state and will be accorded a grand welcome, Dhiman said.
He directed the Sports Department to ensure that all arrangements at the stadium, including the track, facilities for athletes, drinking water, sanitation and cleanliness, are completed within the stipulated time.
Dhiman said the sporting initiative, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to promote a sports culture in Punjab, provides a major platform to identify and nurture sporting talent from villages and urban areas across the state.
He said the games also aim to channel the energy of young people towards constructive activities, contribute to the fight against drug abuse and help build a healthier society.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bathinda Amandeep Singh Mavi, District Sports Officer Rupinder Pal Singh and officials and employees from various departments attended the meeting.
