The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a boost in Punjab on Sunday as a large number of youths joined the party during an induction programme organised by Mohit Jand at Mullanpur in Mohali.
Welcoming the new members, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon said the youths had made the right choice for a brighter and more prosperous future for Punjab. He described young people as the driving force of any state or country and said Punjab’s youth needed the right opportunities and direction to realise their potential.
“Punjab’s youth possess immense energy, determination and hard work, but their potential needs the right direction and opportunities,” Dhillon said.
Targeting the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Dhillon alleged that its promise to eradicate drug abuse within three months had failed to deliver the desired results.
“Drugs and unemployment have severely affected our youth and left them deeply concerned about their future. Punjab needs a government that can provide direction, opportunities and a secure future to its young people,” he said.
Dhillon alleged that the state government lacked a clear strategy to generate employment in both the public and private sectors and was instead placing greater emphasis on publicity and advertisements.
He also claimed that industries were moving out of Punjab and pointed to neighbouring Haryana as an example. Referring to Gurugram, he said the industrial and corporate hub was generating employment for lakhs of young people and making a significant contribution to Haryana’s economy.
The Punjab BJP chief also raised concerns over law and order, gangsterism, agriculture and the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He questioned the AAP government’s claims of an “Education and Health Revolution”.
Dhillon claimed that more than 31,000 teaching positions in schools and colleges, along with around 2,400 professor posts, remained vacant. He also alleged that the promise to establish 16 medical colleges had largely remained on paper and claimed that Punjab’s debt had risen from ₹2.82 lakh crore to ₹4.5 lakh crore.
Linking the youth to the forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections, Dhillon said a “double-engine” BJP government was necessary to address the state’s major challenges.
“Our goal is not merely to win elections. Our aim is to build a prosperous, drug-free Punjab with better employment opportunities and a secure future for its youth,” he said.
Dhillon assured the newly inducted members that they would receive due respect, responsibilities and opportunities to contribute to strengthening the BJP at the grassroots level.
Those present at the programme included Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, Punjab BJP Vice Presidents Subhash Sharma and Ranjit Singh Gill, senior leader Fatehjang Singh Bajwa, Mohali District President Sanjeev Vashisht and N.K. Verma, besides a large gathering of party workers and supporters.
