Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday said the life, ideology and supreme sacrifices of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev continue to guide his government, which is committed to fulfilling their vision of a free, progressive and prosperous Punjab.
Paying floral tributes to the martyrs at Hussainiwala on the occasion of Independence Day, Mann said the government would make every effort to realise Bhagat Singh’s dreams and preserve the legacy of the freedom fighters for future generations.
He said the state government has initiated work on the Hussainiwala Heritage Complex at an estimated cost of ₹24.99 crore. The project, he said, is aimed not only at preserving the historic significance of the site but also at developing Hussainiwala as a major tourist destination.
Mann said Hussainiwala holds immense significance as the mortal remains of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were cremated there by the British after their martyrdom. He said the site continues to inspire generations of Indians, particularly the youth, to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.
Recalling Bhagat Singh’s sacrifice at the age of 23, the Chief Minister said his martyrdom inspired countless young people to join the freedom movement and would continue to serve as a source of inspiration for the youth.
He appealed to young people to draw inspiration from Bhagat Singh’s life and contribute towards building a progressive and prosperous India.
Giving details of the Heritage Complex, Mann said a grand heritage entrance gate, a heritage corridor depicting the lives of the martyrs, wall paintings and landscaping of parks and memorial areas would be developed under the project.
The complex will also feature thematic representations of important historical events and personalities, besides a 3D mapping show on the old bridge to present historical narratives and a musical fountain.
According to the Chief Minister, other proposed facilities include a dedicated children’s play area, recreational and comfortable spaces for senior citizens, an on-grid solar power plant and an RO plant to provide clean drinking water.
Mann said the project was a humble effort to honour the great martyrs and ensure that their contribution to India’s freedom struggle remains preserved and accessible to future generations.
