Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann Joins Teej Celebrations in Nawanshahr, Phillaur, Highlights Women’s Role in Punjab

Nawanshahr/Phillaur, August 14, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Teej celebrations brought together Punjab’s cultural traditions and women’s participation in Nawanshahr and Phillaur on Thursday, with a large number of women taking part in programmes organised across the Doaba region.

Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann attended the celebrations and was warmly welcomed by women participating in the events, which featured traditional Punjabi attire, folk culture and a festive atmosphere.

Gurpreet Kaur Mann said Teej was more than a festival, describing it as a celebration of the happiness, confidence and bonds shared by Punjab’s women. She said such events provide an opportunity to preserve Punjabi heritage and pass it on to future generations.

She said women in Punjab were increasingly aware of their rights and dignity, adding that the participation of women in such programmes and their support for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reflected confidence in the policies and functioning of the Mann government.

In Nawanshahr, the celebrations were organised under the leadership of Halqa In-charge Robby Kang. Mann praised Kang, saying that remaining connected with people and effectively raising their concerns was the real test of anyone entrusted with public responsibility.

At Phillaur, the participation of women was also highlighted, particularly as a woman had been given the responsibility of Halqa In-charge there for the first time. Mann said assigning leadership responsibilities to women was not merely about representation but reflected their growing role in Punjab’s political life and confidence in their leadership abilities.

She said the Phillaur Halqa In-charge had been regularly engaging with residents and actively performing her responsibilities.

During the programmes, Mann interacted with women and shared in the celebrations. Discussions also covered government initiatives for women, including the Maavan-Dheeyan Scheme.

Mann said Punjab’s development would be complete only when every woman was strong, respected and self-reliant. She said the state government was committed to women’s empowerment and creating greater opportunities for women to take on leadership responsibilities.
