Harbhajan Singh ETO Reviews Punjab Road Projects, Directs Officials to Ensure Smooth Traffic During Monsoon

Chandigarh, August 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Thursday reviewed the progress of road development projects across the state and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement during the monsoon season.

Chairing a meeting at Punjab Bhawan, the minister said the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was committed to strengthening the state’s transportation network and providing better road connectivity to people.

Harbhajan Singh ETO said construction and renovation work was being undertaken on around 45,000 km of roads across Punjab. He reviewed the constituency-wise and division-wise status of ongoing works on state highways and link roads under the Public Works Department.

The minister directed officers to regularly inspect roads during the monsoon and take timely measures to prevent disruption of traffic. He said that since bitumen work could not be undertaken during the rainy season, WBM roads should be properly rolled so that they were ready for bitumen work once the rains ended.

He also instructed officials to monitor the progress of projects on a daily basis and ensure their timely completion. The status of highway works near Adampur being undertaken in connection with the 650th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas Ji was also reviewed.

Emphasising quality control, the minister said the government would not allow public money to be wasted and directed officers to maintain strict quality standards at every stage of construction.

He ordered continuous inspections and monitoring at all levels and stressed strict compliance with prescribed standards relating to road signage, lane markings and construction quality.

Harbhajan Singh ETO also directed concerned officers to immediately submit pending fund demands and release payments to prevent delays in ongoing projects.

The minister said he would review the progress of the works again shortly.

The meeting was attended by PWD Secretary Ravi Bhagat, Joint Secretary Amarbeer Sidhu, Engineer-in-Chief Gagandeep Singh, Chief Engineers Anil Gupta and Arshdeep Singh, besides Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers.
