Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled two alleged cross-border drug and illegal arms supply networks with the arrest of five people and recovery of seven illegal pistols and 2.030 kg of heroin, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday.
The arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive to strengthen security in Punjab under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The arrested accused have been identified as Pargat Singh alias Pagga, 30, and Janbar Singh, 20, both residents of village Dall in Tarn Taran; Balwinder Singh alias Billa, 30, of village Doake in Amritsar Rural; Amandeep Singh alias Aman, 37, of Sarwarpura in Amritsar; and Balwinder Singh alias Kala, 42, of Kot Atma Ram in Amritsar.
The recovered weapons comprise four .30-bore pistols, stated to be made in China, and three 9mm pistols, stated to be made in Austria. Police also impounded two motorcycles allegedly being used for criminal activities.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused booked under the Arms Act were allegedly in contact with smugglers based abroad and were procuring illegal weapons for further supply in the Amritsar and Tarn Taran areas.
He said investigators were working to establish the complete forward and backward linkages, verify the alleged foreign connections and uncover the wider supply network.
Giving details of the operations, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said police, acting on reliable intelligence, arrested Pargat Singh alias Pagga, Janbar Singh and Balwinder Singh alias Billa in the first case and recovered five illegal pistols from them.
Based on disclosures allegedly made by Pargat Singh and Balwinder Singh, police subsequently recovered two more pistols from locations identified by them.
In a separate operation, police acted on specific intelligence and intercepted Amandeep Singh alias Aman and Balwinder Singh alias Kala. A search led to the recovery of 2.03 kg of heroin, the CP said.
Gill said further arrests and recoveries were expected as the investigation progresses.
Two separate cases have been registered in connection with the operations: FIR No. 250 dated August 11, 2026, under Section 25(8) of the Arms Act at Police Station Islamabad, and FIR No. 179 dated August 10, 2026, under Sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sultanwind, Amritsar.
