Punjab Police conducted 638 raids across the state on Monday as part of its ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign against gangster networks, arresting 500 people and recovering 15 weapons.
The operation, which entered its 202nd day, also saw preventive action against 257 individuals and the arrest of eight proclaimed offenders, police said.
The ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign was launched by Punjab Police chief Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the objective of making Punjab free of gangster networks. Police teams from districts across the state have been carrying out coordinated operations with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab at identified locations linked to gangsters and their associates.
With Monday’s arrests, the total number of people arrested under the campaign has reached 59,021.
Punjab Police has also urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and other criminal activities. Such information can be provided anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.
137 Drug Smugglers Arrested
Meanwhile, the police campaign against drugs, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, continued for the 527th day. Police arrested 137 alleged drug smugglers and recovered 1.6 kg of heroin, 2,103 intoxicant pills and Rs 1,450 in suspected drug proceeds during the day.
The cumulative number of drug smugglers arrested since the launch of the campaign has reached 75,689.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded 13 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Monday.
