Praveen Saini has been elected as the new Mayor of Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation, while Surinder Kumar and Sandeep Chechi have been appointed as Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively.
The elections for the three key posts were held at the Municipal Corporation complex after the recent election of 50 councillors. The newly elected office-bearers assumed charge in the presence of MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa.
After taking charge, Mayor Praveen Saini, Senior Deputy Mayor Surinder Kumar and Deputy Mayor Sandeep Chechi assured that they would work with full dedication for the development of Hoshiarpur and ensure better civic facilities for residents.
Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh congratulated the newly elected office-bearers and said that with the cooperation of city residents, Hoshiarpur would emerge as a model city in terms of development in the next five years.
He said the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government would provide all possible support for the overall growth and progress of Hoshiarpur. He added that representation had been given to women and youth after mutual consensus during the selection process.
Dr Balbir Singh said every office-bearer would be assigned responsibilities to contribute effectively towards the city’s development. He highlighted various initiatives of the state government in sectors including health, education, pilgrimage schemes and welfare programmes.
He further said that development works within the limits of Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation would be accelerated to ensure better facilities for citizens across all sectors.
Mayor Praveen Saini said priority would be given to projects based on the needs and demands of residents, and no delay would be allowed in carrying out development works in the city.
Jalandhar Division Commissioner Ramveer, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Jyoti Bala Mattu, councillors from various wards and other dignitaries were present during the election proceedings.
