Punjab Police on Wednesday intensified its crackdown against gangster networks under the ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, conducting 652 raids at identified locations linked to gangsters and their associates across the state.
The campaign, aimed at making Punjab a gangster-free state, was launched by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026. Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, have been carrying out targeted operations against criminal elements.
On the 197th day of the campaign, police teams arrested 454 individuals and recovered three weapons. With these arrests, the total number of persons arrested since the launch of the drive has reached 56,909.
Besides arrests, preventive action was taken against 213 individuals, while 11 proclaimed offenders (POs) were also apprehended during the operation.
Punjab Police appealed to citizens to share information regarding wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline Number 93946-93946. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
Meanwhile, the police continued their anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 522nd day. During the latest action, 139 drug smugglers were arrested and police recovered 12 kg heroin, 301 grams opium, 9.2 kg poppy husk, 1,114 intoxicant tablets and ₹41,700 drug money from their possession.
The total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has now reached 75,441 in 522 days.
As part of its de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts, Punjab Police also motivated 16 persons to undergo treatment for overcoming drug addiction, reaffirming its commitment to tackling both drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.
