Under the Punjab Government’s ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign, an illegal construction belonging to an alleged drug smuggler was demolished in Badmajra with the assistance of police and civil administration.
The action was carried out under the guidance of SSP SAS Nagar Harmandeep Singh Hans, IPS, SP (Rural) SAS Nagar Manpreet Singh, SP (PBI) SAS Nagar Deepika Singh, and DSP Kharar Sub-Division-1 Ishan Singla.
According to police officials, the demolition was carried out at Shiv Colony, Badmajra Colony, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Balongi, against the illegal construction of Anil, son of Munna Chauhan, an alleged drug smuggler.
DSP Ishan Singla said that the accused had allegedly been involved in illegal drug activities despite repeated warnings. He said the accused was using the house as a centre for drug-related activities.
The police officer said the house was allegedly constructed by Anil by illegally occupying panchayat shamlat land in Badmajra using money earned through illegal drug trade.
A case FIR No. 183 dated July 10, 2026, under Sections 21/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Police Station Balongi, SAS Nagar, and he is currently lodged in jail.
Police officials further stated that after Inspector Periwinkle Grewal took charge as Station House Officer of Police Station Balongi in December 2025, strict action has been taken against drug-related activities in the area.
During this period, based on information received with the support of local residents, 70 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered and 103 accused persons have been arrested and sent to jail.
The police also said that awareness campaigns and meetings have been conducted with Village Defence Committee (VDC) members and residents to educate people about the ill effects of drugs. Several drug-affected individuals have also been connected with OOAT centres to help them overcome addiction.
Officials said these efforts have strengthened public confidence in the police and improved coordination between law enforcement agencies and residents. They added that strict action against drug suppliers and addicts has also contributed to a decline in incidents of theft and snatching in the area.
Police reiterated that the campaign against drug trafficking will continue and strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal trade.
