Punjabi singer-actor Amar Noori participates in ‘Tiyan Teej Diyan’ at PAU

Wearing traditional Punjabi suits and juttis (footwear) with Phulkari draped around the shoulders, the women folk of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) electrified the atmosphere with their giddha and boliyan during the Teej festival celebrations in the University here on Tuesday. The entire atmosphere was surcharged with the festive spirit amid dhol beats and kickli.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU and Mr Rishi Pal Singh, Registrar, attended the event, extending their best wishes to the participating ladies who kept the atmosphere alive with the Punjabi folklore and exchange of sweets.

Dr Harshinder Kaur, Paediatrician, Rajendra Hospital, Patiala, stressed upon empowering the women for financial independence and sustainable livelihood.

Smt Amar Noori, a famous Punjabi singer, while highlighting the significance of the Teej festival, urged the young girls to develop a deep bond with their cultural heritage which is not only rich but also vivacious and prosperous.

The Director Students’ Welfare Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura urged the youths, “Keep the Punjabi culture alive wherever you go, be it at the state, national and international level.”

A total of 74 girls participated in Miss Teej contest, in which Harleen Kaur, Jasnoor Kaur and Tanjot Kaur bagged the Miss Teej title as well as stood first and second runners-up, respectively.

Besides, Shaganpreet Kaur, Harman, Karanpreet Kaur, Ashmeet Kaur and Simranjeet Kaur were feted for beautiful attire, traditional jewellery, beautiful eyes, beautiful smile and best catwalk, respectively. Darshpreet Kaur was adjudged as the most beautiful woman.

Later, Dr Gosal gave away the prizes to the winners and exhorted the students to move forward by excelling in academics and co-curricular activities.

The Adjunct Professor (Mrs) Dr Jaswinder Kaur Brar and Associate Director of Skill Development Dr (Mrs) Rupinder Kaur co-coordinated the programme.

Dr Ashoo Toor, Associate Professor of English, and Dr Inderpreet Boparai, Extension Scientist, conducted the programme.

Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research; Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education; Dr RIS Gill, Estate Officer; Dr TS Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education; and Dr Kiran Bains, Dean, College of Community Science, also graced the occasion.
