Member of Parliament from Hoshiarpur, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, said that the Punjab Government’s Budget 2026-27 is dedicated to public welfare and development and will provide a new direction and momentum to the progress of the state.
Speaking on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Dr Chabbewal said that fulfilling its promise, the state government has introduced a major scheme in the budget to provide financial assistance to women. Under the scheme, all women above the age of 18 will receive ₹1,000 per month, while women belonging to Scheduled Castes will receive ₹1,500 per month.
He further said that every eligible woman in a household will be entitled to receive the benefit, irrespective of the number of women in the family. According to him, the initiative is a significant step taken by the government towards economic empowerment of women across the state.
Dr Chabbewal also informed that the registration process for the scheme will begin on April 13 on the occasion of Vaisakhi, enabling eligible women to enroll and start receiving the benefits.
Highlighting other key provisions of the budget, he said that the government has also made special arrangements to expand the Rangla Punjab Development Scheme, with the allocation increased to ₹1,170 crore, nearly double the amount provided last year. This, he said, will accelerate development works across Punjab.
The MP further added that the agriculture sector budget has been increased by six percent, taking the total allocation to ₹15,377 crore for the financial year 2026-27. In addition, funding for urban local bodies has been increased fourfold to ₹1,000 crore in order to boost development in urban areas.
Dr Chabbewal said the budget presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been prepared keeping in mind the needs of every section of society and will give a new direction to the overall development of Punjab.
He added that the Punjab Government is spending an unprecedented amount on welfare and development, more than what many other states are currently allocating for public welfare initiatives.
