After presenting a watershed budget on International Women’s Day, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today drew a sharp distinction between the governance models of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Finance Minister Cheema said that while Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership is defined by the “sanctity of the guarantee”—proven by the concrete budgetary rollout of monthly income for Punjab’s women—PM Modi’s “guarantees”, such as the Rs 2,500 monthly aid promised to Delhi’s women, remain unfulfilled even after the BJP’s rise to power in the national capital.
Emphasising the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) unwavering commitment to its electoral promises while addressing a press conference at Punjabi Language hall in Punjab Vidhan Sabha here, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the AAP-led Punjab Government has successfully fulfilled all guarantees made to the people of the state.
He said that within 4 years of its service, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government has officially introduced the “Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satikar Yojna” in the state budget for the Financial Year 2026-27 to fulfil its fifth guarantee. The scheme provides Rs 1,000 per month to women in the general category and Rs 1,500 per month to women from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
Taking a strong stance against the BJP, Finance Minister Cheema criticised the saffron party for misleading voters with “use-and-throw” promises. He specifically pointed to the BJP’s conduct in Delhi, noting that despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-decibel announcement during the Delhi assembly polls that every woman would receive Rs 2,500 in her account starting March 8, 2026, the party has completely failed to operationalise the benefit.
“Arvind Kejriwal represents a politics of work and integrity; he always fulfils the promises he makes to the common man,” said Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema while adding, “The Punjab Budget for FY 2026-27 is a testament to this, specifically with the realization of the monthly income guarantee. In stark contrast, PM Modi and the BJP have once again proven themselves to be a ‘Jumla party.’
The Finance Minister concluded by reiterating that the Punjab Government, guided by the principles of the AAP, remains dedicated to the welfare of all citizens. He emphasized that the “Saari Guarantiyan Puri Karan Wala Budget” (The Budget that Fulfills All Guarantees) ensures that taxpayers’ money is returned directly to the people through inclusive growth and financial empowerment.
