An Expert Lecture on Animal Bite Awareness was successfully organized at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda. The program was jointly conducted by the NSS Wing of MRSPTU and Red Cross Bathinda with the objective of spreading awareness about prevention, first aid, and timely treatment of animal bites.
The programme was organized in compliance with the guidelines issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and in reference to the Supreme Court order dated 07.11.2025, which directs educational institutions to take necessary steps to curb the rising incidents of dog bite cases on campuses and to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The session aimed to educate students and staff about the risks associated with animal bites, particularly dog bites and snake bites, and the importance of immediate medical attention to prevent life-threatening infections such as rabies and complications arising from venomous snake bites.
The expert speakers highlighted common myths and misconceptions regarding animal bites and emphasized the need for proper wound washing, timely administration of anti-rabies vaccine, and urgent medical care in case of snake bite.
During the lecture, practical guidance was provided on preventive measures, including avoiding stray animal provocation, maintaining a safe distance from unknown animals, taking precautions in snake-prone areas, and ensuring vaccination of pets. Participants were also informed about the availability of anti-rabies vaccines and anti-snake venom treatment at designated health centres.
The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, NSS volunteers, and faculty members. The interactive session enabled attendees to clarify their doubts and gain valuable knowledge about community health, safety, and emergency response.
