The Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Punjab Lok Bhavan, Chandigarh, in the presence of the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria. The event was held under the Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat initiative, which promotes unity and better understanding among different States of India.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor extended his greetings to the people of both States. He said that Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are known for their natural beauty, rich tribal culture, and strong traditions.
He mentioned that both States became full-fledged States on 20 February 1987, which was an important step in India’s democratic journey. He also appreciated the close relationship that tribal communities share with nature and their role in preserving culture and the environment.
The Governor praised Mizoram for its high literacy rate and disciplined society, and noted the cultural diversity of Arunachal Pradesh with its many tribes. He appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat programme for bringing people of different States closer. He also highlighted the Central Government’s development efforts in the North-East and said that India’s diversity is its biggest strength.
The celebration included colourful cultural performances. The audience enjoyed the Khualam and Cheraw dances of Mizoram, as well as the Galo and Mopin dances of Arunachal Pradesh. The programme ended with a Grand Finale by all performers, symbolising unity and national pride.
Also present on the occasion were Shri Nachhatar Pal, MLA Punjab; Shri Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India; Shri Vivek Partap Singh, Principal Secretary to the Governor of Punjab; Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh Administration; Shri Sagarpreet Hooda, DGP, Chandigarh; and Shri Swapnil M. Naik, Secretary, Personnel, along with other officials and distinguished guests.
