Rajya Sabha Member and environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal today visited the Gidderpindi railway bridge and Mandala Chhanna, where he listened to the problems of farmers and directed the concerned officials to resolve these issues.
Sant Seechewal said that the removal of accumulated silt beneath the Gidderpindi railway bridge is very necessary to avoid flood-like situations.
He stated that he has already held meetings with Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal and senior officials regarding the removal of silt, illegal encroachments and other major issues. He assured the farmers that the Punjab Government will not allow flood-like conditions to arise in the area.
Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal further informed that a proposal is being prepared to lay stones up to 2,200 feet at Mandala Chhanna. He said that stones will be installed to strengthen the embankment and that studs and spurs will also be constructed at appropriate places so that the river does not damage the embankment.
On the occasion, the Naib Tehsildar, SDOs of the Drainage Department and other officials were present.
